AMA BRASIL seaweed farms will be licensed on the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

Normative Instruction No. 1, of the 21st of January, 2020, decided to allow the cultivation of marine algae of the species Kappaphycus alvarezii on the coast of Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in the areas defined in this standard, published on January 23, 2020, in issue 16, section 1, page 76, by IBAMA - Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, which expanded the cultivation area, as Santa Catarina was included, when previously there was no permission.

AMA BRASIL, through its ALGAMAR project, in partnership with the Coastal Agency and Cooperaqua (Aquaculture Cooperative of the North Coast of São Paulo), are implementing production structures in the four cities of the north coast of São Paulo. Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela, São Sebastião and Ubatuba, and also in the cities on the south coast of Rio de Janeiro, Paraty, Angra dos Reis, Mangaratiba, Itaguaí and the Capital Rio de Janeiro, with boundaries between Ilhabela in São Paulo and Sepetiba Bay in Rio de Janeiro .
